How to Use the Sump Pump Float Switch

How to Use the Sump Pump Float Switch

The float switch is the main component to your sump pump. The sump pump is the pump used to remove pooled water, usually found in residential basements. You can learn how to use the float switch in a few easy steps.

1 Place the float switch along the discharge pipe. Make sure you secure the float switch with a tie wrap around the tether location area, usually in the middle.

2 Check the sump pump pit for any obstructions that could keep the float switch from working properly. Move your float switch up and make sure it can move freely.

3 Plug in the float switch with piggyback plug into the outlet. Now plug in the sump pump to the piggyback plug.

4 Add water to your sump pump pit and test your float switch. Make sure when the water is released the float switch device turns off about two or three inches from the bottom.
